Popular or BowcamThe DVD is in DVD-R format, recorded in PAL for use in the UK and some other countries. Available in Popular or Bowcam formats, or Combined in one box.
The Popular format is a cross between a documentary and a holiday programme and is supplied with a fold-out map (37 x 24 cm - 14 x 9 inches) and an information booklet giving further background material.
For at little fun, the Bowcam version is a speeded up film from a forward facing camera with captions added to show the location. |
Popular + Bowcam = CombinedThe Combined version includes both DVDs in a single box.
Save at least £1.75 buying the 2 DVD set with both together in one box at £19.90 (that's saving £1.00 on the DVDs and £0.75 on the UK postage - and even more on postage abroad). |

Review in Canal Boat MagazineThis is the latest DVD in the Waterway Routes series which now covers much of the network. It follows the ring beginning at Braunston, via the northern Grand Union to Birmingham, the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal to Fazeley, then the Coventry Canal all the way to the dead end terminus in Coventry city before returning to Hawkesbury Junction to join the northern Oxford Canal to complete the circuit to Braunston.
As usual with recent Waterway Routes releases, two formats are available: the conventional one covering a cruise around the ring with descriptions of waterways history and features and local attractions, and the novelty 'bowcam' format which combines a more limited commentary with a greatly speeded up 'boat's eye view' of the entire ring - we timed it at three minutes to pass all 21 Hatton Locks! - and a boxed set of the two is also available.

Review in Towpath TalkThe latest double DVD set from Waterway Routes is an ideal gift for someone making their cruising plans for next summer.
Warwickshire Ring (Route 87C Combined) takes the boater clockwise around the 92 mile ring from Braunston Turn and includes the Hatton Flight, the Saltisford Arm and the Hillmorton Paired Locks. Part of the Waterway Routes series covering the canal and rivers in Britain, the set includes both the Popular (60 minutes) and Bowcam (62 minutes) DVDs as well as a handy fold-out map and guide.
What better way to escape from a dreary winter day than to relax in your armchair and be transported to the summer sights and sounds of tree and meadow-lined canals with animals grazing and waterfowl with their young. It just makes you want to be in the heart of England when summer's here.
We see the crew working the 51 broad locks and 43 narrow locks along the route which, was are told, with 54 hours cruising time can just be fitted into a busy week.
For 'a little fun' this set comes complete with the Bowcam DVD which is reminiscent of the speeded-up train cab ride which those of us of a certain age will recall. It certainly makes weaving in and out past oncoming narrowboats look decidedly risky.
Warwickshire Ring is produced by Waterway Routes, RRP £19.90.
