The summit level of the Old Main Line of the Birmingham Canal Navigations (BCN) passes through a cutting.

When first built the canal climbed through a further three locks to a higher summit level, before descending through a further three locks at the far end.

Water supply problems means that three locks were removed at each end and the cutting deepened.
