The former railway bridge crosses the River Foss

The bridge once carried a railway line across the River Foss, and has been repurposed for a footpath.

Navigation would be difficult

Low overhanging trees would make navigation impossible for a narrowboat if we had got this far. These are not just thin branches which might be pushed out of the way but too substantial for that.
